Years ago, the term “big bang” was coined by a theorist (which in the modern day is called a “scientist”) named Fred Hoyle as he described a theory (which in the modern day is called a “fact”) about the origin of the universe. The “big bang” fairytale, in plain words, goes something like this: “Many billions of years ago (we’re not sure how many billions because we are “scientists” and can’t be sure of anything), there was NOTHING. Then that nothing got really HOT with no source of heat. But although there was no source of heat, the nothing that wasn’t there got hotter and hotter until it finally EXPLODED with no source of ignition. When the nothing blew up, the EARTH came out. That may be “stewing it down to a fine poison”, but that is the long and short of it.
Stephen Hawking and others try to make this absurdity sound respectable by calling it the “initial space-time singularity”, which sounds smart, but still doesn’t explain anything. After all, where did the “space” and the “time” come from to produce any “singularity”? Even if such a thing as a “space-time singularity” could be proven (which it can’t), the question remains as to what actually is the origin of space and time.
There are four possibilities (and only four) that mankind has come up with in recorded history as to what is the origin of the universe. (This is not discussed in secular schools, colleges, or universities.)
THE POSSIBILITIES
It came from nothing, naturally. This is the Big Bang, or the “initial singularity”, or whatever title they come up with next. (They’re talking about “multi-verses” and “multi-dimensional” fantasies currently.)
It has always been here. Meaning, the universe is eternal, with no beginning and no end.
It isn’t really here at all; it’s an illusion.
It came from nothing, supernaturally. In other words, God made it.
Now, that’s it and that’s all. There are no other origin theories which have ever been produced by the most brilliant intellectuals mankind has produced in the last 6,000 years.
There are some problems with three of these theories. Two of them defy demonstrable scientific fact which has been proven and documented (this is REAL science—it can be produced by experimentation). The third defies SANITY.
THE ARGUMENTS
The first possibility, that the universe came from nothing, naturally, can be thrown out based on the first law of thermodynamics which states that matter can neither be created nor destroyed. Something cannot be produced from nothing by any natural process. Out goes the big bang, or the “singularity” (or, the double-bogey, or the triple bypass, etc.). One cannot take nothing and heat it up with more nothing until nothing explodes with no particles to go anyplace because there’s no place to go.
The second possibility, that the universe has always been here, requires the eternity of matter. But this theory falls apart before the second law of thermodynamics, which holds that there is always entropy in a closed system. Things fall apart. Your car is losing value as you read this and will one day be a rusted out scrap pile. Batteries run down, tools wear out, houses fall in. You are getting older, not younger, and one day you will die when your body gives out. That will probably be after your teeth start falling out, your health declines, your heart wears out, your skin sags, and your bones and joints deteriorate. The same is true of the universe and can be observed as fact. The sun is losing millions of tons of mass every minute, and the earth’s magnetic field is deteriorating. If the universe had been here for half the length of time the big brains guess it has, it would have collapsed and imploded into a black hole of random molecules. That is, according to the observable laws of real science.
The third possibility is barely worth mentioning. That the universe and life as we know it is some sort of illusion is just rubbish. However it still begs the question, Who is producing the illusion? Pinch yourself to disprove this “possibility.”
Now we are left with the fourth and final possibility, that the universe came from nothing, SUPERNATURALLY. This is the only possibility that cannot be disproven, and therefore is the only scientific conclusion to which we can come. Once you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth. Somebody says, “What about the first law of thermodynamics, that says ‘matter and energy cannot be created’?” The laws of thermodynamics are NATURAL LAWS. If a SUPER-natural Being is powerful enough to create nature and its laws, doesn’t it stand to reason He would be powerful enough to OVERTHROW and supersede them? Of course it does, and of course He is. God said, “Let there be light, and there was light.”
The Bible teaches a “big bang,” but leave it to mankind to get everything backwards. Evolution theorizes that life begins at the bottom with the amoebas, and things get better and better as life slowly rises to the top. The Bible says we began at the top (Gen. 2), and from there, with the entrance of SIN (Gen. 3), things degenerate and get worse and worse until God has to step in and fix everything up.
“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” (II Pet. 3:10)
A wise man once said, “People don’t believe in evolution because of the evidence; they believe in it because of the ALTERNATIVE.” If evolution is a lie (and there is no doubt in our minds), you will stand before the God who created this universe and give an account for your sins.
“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment…In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ…” (Heb. 9:27; Rom. 2:16)
"And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." (Rev. 20:15)
"The wicked shall be turned into hell..." (Psa. 9:17)
Here in 2021, things are descending into hell on a universal scale, and on an individual scale in your life, because of SIN. “The wages of sin is death” (Rom. 6:23). And the only “possibility” of your escape is to take the gift of God, which is eternal life through the Lord Jesus Christ (Rom. 6:23). The way out is SUPERNATURAL. Jesus Christ is THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE, and no man comes to God the Father but by HIM (John 14:6). You can't make your own way out by your good works or religion. There is no natural way to escape the penalty for your sins. Just as it took a Supernatural God to give life to this universe, it will take a Supernatural God to give ETERNAL life to your soul. Without Him, you are “dead in trespasses and sins” (Eph. 2:1).
If you trust Jesus Christ as your Saviour, you can go up at a trumpet blast (I Thess. 4; I Cor. 15); if you trust anything or anybody else, you’ll go out with a BIG BANG.
“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” (II Pet. 3:10)
