A King James Bible-Believing Church serving the city of Montreal
Youth Rally and Christmas Dinner
Bro James Deferio, Martville NY Preaching
Friday at 7pm, December 13
Baptism, good works, church membership...NONE of those things can save your soul from hell. Jesus Christ said, "I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE, AND NO MAN COMETH TO THE FATHER BUT BY ME." Salvation is in Jesus Christ ALONE.
"The wages [payment] of sin is death; but the GIFT of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Will you trust Christ today?
Pray something like this: "Lord Jesus, I know I'm a sinner. I know I deserve to go to hell for my sins. But I believe you died for me, and took my punishment for sin in my place, and rose from the dead to prove you have power over death and hell. The best way I know how, I'm asking you to save me from my sins, and I accept your offer of eternal life as a FREE GIFT. God be merciful to me, a sinner, and save my soul for Jesus' sake! Amen."
The Bible says if you "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ...thou shalt be saved." It's as simple as that.
The Purpose For Your Existence
Did you ever wonder what life is all about?
Millions search for a lifetime to find the meaning for their existence, but few are actually satisfied with what they find.
If you think about it, who could give you the answer to your purpose in life better than the One who created you and put you here? The word of God puts it in simple terms. It says:
“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” ---Revelation 4:11
According to the scriptures, you and I were put here for God’s pleasure. When God made Adam and Eve and placed them in the garden of Eden, it was so He could have fellowship with someone who returned His Love of their own free will. That’s why God gave them an option: “Choose My Way and live with Me forever, happily, in a perfect environment, with no death, disease, sickness or pain; choose your way, and die in your sins, with Me as your Judge.” He wanted them to have a choice. After all, how could you enjoy someone’s love if they were forced to love you? Much to God’s dismay, and unfortunately for you and me, Adam chose the wrong option.
"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" ---Romans 5:12
He sinned and lost his fellowship and connection with His Creator. He died spiritually, and later physically.
"But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear." ---Isaiah 59:2
Now, all who have been born after him have inherited his fallen, sinful nature. Every person that ever came into this world was born a sinner.
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" ---Romans 3:23
It is because of man’s sin that there is disease, war, famine, suffering, and death. And that isn’t the worst of it. Because God is Holy, He can never be defiled by our sins; and because He is just, they cannot go unpunished. Sin demands a payment.
"For the wages of sin is death" ---Romans 6:23
All sin is against an Eternal God, so the payment has to be an eternal payment.
“The wicked shall be turned into hell...” ---Psalm 9:17
"And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." ---Revelation 20:14
Now this is all bad news, and disturbing. But when it comes to the eternal destiny of your soul, there is nothing you should be more afraid of than spending eternity in a lake of fire. As a matter of fact, Jesus Christ Himself said this:
“And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” ---Matthew 10:28
The question is, “Why didn’t God do something to stop all this from happening, if all He really wanted was our fellowship?"
God is a balanced Being. He is altogether Holy and Just, and at the same time He is Merciful and Gracious. In order for those characteristics to harmonize, God had to devise a plan in which man could have his sins judged and paid for, and yet still be forgiven and restored to his original state of fellowship with God. (Remember, this is what God wanted to begin with.) In short, man had to be saved. Saved from the eternal penalty for his sins (hell) and from the power of his sins (the trouble it brings in life). So here’s what God did. He looked at the situation and decided that the only way to redeem mankind back to Himself, save them from their sins and from hell, and fulfill that payment for sin, was for God Himself to suffer for sin, and die in man’s place.
"For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:" ---I Peter 3:18
"For he [God] hath made him [Jesus Christ] to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." ---II Corinthians 5:21
He was the only One who could do it. If an ordinary man died as a sacrifice for sins, he would just be paying for his own sins, and no one else’s. No, in order for all of man’s sin to be paid for once and for all, finally and forever, it required a sinless substitute. So God Himself came into this world in the person of His Son Jesus Christ, lived a sinless life, and died a perfect death as the Supreme Sacrifice for your sins and mine.
"And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh..." ---I Timothy 3:16
But this man [Christ], after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;" ---Hebrews 10:12
And it didn’t end there. Three days later, Jesus Christ came up from the dead, proving He was Who He said He was, and showing you that you no longer have to die in your sins. That’s why Christ said “It is finished” when He died. The eternal problem was solved.
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" ---I Corinthians 15:3, 4
Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification." ---Romans 4:25
Now What?
Here is where the Bible is different than any other religious book or teaching on earth. The Bible makes it clear that there is absolutely nothing that you can do to make it to heaven on your own, nothing you can do to atone for your sins and make things right, and nothing you can do to satisfy God’s demands for Holiness and righteousness. Going to church will do nothing to save your soul. Being a good person won’t help; keeping the golden rule, keeping the commandments, going to confession, partaking of the mass, giving to charities, and doing the best you can, will result in you dying in your sins and going to hell.
“How could that be?!!” you ask.
Two reasons. One, you were born wrong; and two, Jesus Christ already did all there was to be done. There is no work left for you to do, even if you could do it. Don’t take my word for it; read these verses:
"Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me." ---Psalm 51:5
"As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one...They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one." ---Romans 3:10, 12
"But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags" ---Isaiah 64:6
You were born wrong because you inherited that sinful nature from your great grandfather, Adam. Now read this carefully---It isn’t your bad deeds that send you to hell, and it isn’t your good deeds that send you to heaven. The Bible tells you that God’s solution to this is that you be born again. That is a term you don’t hear much, but did you know Jesus Christ said it?
"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God... Ye must be born again." ---John 3:3, 7
When a person is born again, his soul is saved from sin, he becomes a child of God, he is made a new creature, and his spirit is given life and restored to a place of fellowship with God. The slate is wiped clean, the sins are gone, and a new life is begun.
"Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever." ---I Peter 1:23
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." ---II Corinthians 5:17
"Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord." ---Romans 6:11
Now, as we've already said, there is no work left for you to do to achieve what is discussed in the preceding verses. All that is left for you is a decision. You either decide to reject the word of God shown to you in these few words, or you choose to accept it and believe on Jesus Christ. I didn’t say “Believe in Him.” I said Believe on Him. That is, you trust Him to be your sacrifice for your sins, personally. When you do that, He gives you a free gift with no strings attached. That gift is His Righteousness. You trade your sins for His Righteousness, because His Righteousness is the only righteousness accepted with God. Christ’s righteousness guarantees you eternal life, heaven, a new birth, forgiveness of sins, and God’s Spirit dwelling inside you. All of that can be yours by simply taking God at His word, by faith. Here’s what His word says:
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." ---Romans 5:8
"...the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." ---Romans 6:23
"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;" ---Titus 3:5
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." ---Ephesians 2:8, 9
Would you like to receive this free gift? There is nothing easier in the world. If God really loved us enough to die for us, wouldn’t He have made it as simple as possible for us to be saved from our sins? Of course He would. All you have to do is ask. Read what God said here:
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved...For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." ---Romans 10:9, 13
You don’t need to be baptized, join a church, or live a good life. You need to receive what Jesus Christ did for you. Just call on Him the best way you know how, and He will answer.
It is your choice; but know this: there is no middle ground to be found with the Lord, and there is no other way but His Way. Indecision is a decision not to take Him as your Saviour. The time to decide is now. You are not promised tomorrow; you aren’t even promised five minutes.
“...behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation...” ---II Corinthians 6:2
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him." ---John 3:36
Jesus Christ said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” ---John 14:6
Amen."
