"Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst.

Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it.

And the mean man shall be brought down, and the mighty man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled:

But the LORD of hosts shall be exalted in judgment, and God that is holy shall be sanctified in righteousness." (Isaiah 5:13-16)

I’ll come straight to the point: Hell is real.

The first thing you need to acknowledge about hell is that it’s there.

People don’t believe in hell anymore. The idea of it is too old-fashioned. The preachers don’t preach about it, sinners aren’t afraid of going there, the new Bible versions (or rather, Bible corruptions) have omitted it, and the Christians don’t want to think about it, because it would interrupt their routine. And yet, hell burns as hot today as it ever did.

In our text above, Bible speaks of hell "enlarging herself". It’s fuller today than it’s ever been. Do you realize that every two seconds, some soul goes out into eternity, and ends up in one of two places--heaven or hell? It’s a reality. Snap your fingers every two seconds and think about that.

Somebody said “It’s just not scientific to believe in hell.” The Bible says hell is a place of fire and brimstone (Isa. 34:9) straight down below your feet at the center of the earth. Tell me what science has found that disproves that?

Somebody said, “Hell is a contradiction---how could it be a lake of fire, and outer darkness at the same time?” That’s easy if you’re scientific. Do you know what happens when sulfur is ignited? It burns but has an invisible flame.

The Bertha Rodgers hole in Oklahoma was an oil-well drilling effort. It held the record for the deepest hole ever dug on earth at over 31,000 ft. That's six miles down. They had to stop digging when they hit molten sulfur and melted their drill bit. Sulfur has another name...it's known as brimstone in the Bible.

I suppose the most popular argument against hell is the argument that “A God of love would never send anyone to such an awful place, no matter what they had done.” This argument is put forth by people who don’t know anything about God, don’t know real love, and don’t understand the wickedness of sin. What they really mean is “I would never send anyone to such an awful place.” People are always confusing themselves with God.

The well-known British philosopher and logician Bertrand Russell said, “I do not myself feel that any person who is really profoundly human can believe in everlasting punishment.…I must say that I think all this doctrine, that hellfire is a punishment for sin, is a doctrine of cruelty.”

Russell made a slight miscalculation...God is not “profoundly human.” Russel's statement shows that human beings (read that "sinners") don’t understand that God is holy. You and I can’t understand that. We’re not holy. When a HOLY God is sinned against (and all sin is against God) the sin must be paid for. A Holy God would not tolerate sinfulness and wickedness. They don’t understand that God’s love was manifested at Calvary, in the Person of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, and if a sinner doesn't come to Christ at Calvary and receive His love, that sinner remains under God's wrath and condemnation (John 3:18). They don’t understand that their wretched, vile sins are what put Jesus Christ on the cross. The Holy One of God, the Lord Jesus, was made to BE sin for us (II Cor. 5:21). OUR SINS WERE TO BLAME.

"Light rejected becomes lightning." The pendulum which swings the strongest toward God’s love, will return with the most powerful outpouring of His judgment and wrath on anyone who would REJECT His love. This is because God's love was offered in the Person of His only begotten Son (John 3:16, 36; Rom. 1:18; Eph. 5:6). Rejecting God's Son is the only sin for which a man will go to hell.

After all is said and done, God doesn’t put people in hell anyway, they go there because they don’t choose to take the Way out (John 14:6).

"How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him" (Heb. 2:3)

Hell was “prepared for the devil and his angels” (Matt. 25:41). God never intended for men to go there, but sin puts men on the road to hell, and that's where they end up when they don’t choose to get off that road.

Indeed, there must be a hell, or God would not be Holy. When a man commits a crime against another man, justice demands he pays for that crime by "doing time." He goes to jail or prison for his crime, and pays for it by losing his freedom and his time for the length of the sentence. If the crime is murder or some other capital offense, the man can pay for his crime by giving his life. Either he spends the rest of his life in prison, or is executed. That's what happens when a man sins against another man. But what happens when a man commits a crime against an Eternal Being? And in this case, the crime is DEICIDE---the murder of God's Son, who is God manifest in the flesh (I Tim. 3:16 if you have a King James Bible). To pay for a capital crime against an eternal God would demand an ETERNAL PAYMENT. Hell is not only a reality, but, in light of God's Justice and Holiness, hell is a necessity.

There is a hell, but as awful as it’s existence may seem, that’s not the most dreadful thing about it.

The 2010 World Census shows the following:

There are 6.9 billion people on planet earth.

23% = 1.65 billion of them are Muslims.

31% = 2 billion of them are nominal “Christians” (in other words, they call themselves Christians).

Of these "Christians", 1 billion are Roman Catholics; 240 million are Orthodox; and 80 million of them belong to various cult groups.

Now, we're going to state the truth here and "trigger" the modern, thin-skinned crowd, but facts are facts. If all of the religious people we just listed above actually believe what their religion teaches them about how to get to heaven when they die, they are ALL LOST and going to hell. All of the religions we just listed teach salvation by works, and the New Testament is clear that salvation is "NOT BY WORKS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS WHICH WE HAVE DONE" (Titus 3:5), and "NOT OF WORKS LEST ANY MAN SHOULD BOAST", (Eph. 2:8, 9) and "to him that WORKETH NOT, but BELIEVETH on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness" (Romans 4:5).

That leaves 800 million Protestants worldwide. But they can’t all be saved because that number includes Methodists, Pentecostals, Lutherans, Episcopalians, and Presbyterians, and all of them teach that Acts 2:38 ("Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.") is the plan of salvation for this age. That is salvation by water baptism, and not the gospel of Jesus Christ (I Cor. 15:1-4; I Pet. 3:18; Acts 16:31). You’re going to have to cut that number in half to get close to the truth, and even then that’s probably being generous.

At the end of the day, there might be 400 million saved people worldwide. So let’s put it in simple terms. There are about 330 million people on this continent. If they were ALL saved, that would make up less than 5% of the world’s population. That means six billion, five hundred seventy million people are going to split hell wide open. That’s something like 95% of the population of the earth.

People look at that and say, “I don’t want to think about it.” and pretend and hope hell isn’t real.

Mat 7:13,14 “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”

Every two seconds some screaming, benighted, sin-cursed, misbegotten soul plunges into hell's depths. That soul could be someone you know...someone close to you. But it’s definitely the vast majority of everyone around you.

THE FACT THAT SO MANY ARE GOING TO HELL, IS A DREADFUL TRUTH. But that isn’t the most dreadful thing about hell.

Jesus Christ said, “What shall it profit a man if he should gain the whole world and lose his own soul?”

The Bible speaks of the soul as a bodily shape. In Luke 16, the rich man lift up his EYES in TORMENT and asked (with a VOICE, A THROAT, A MOUTH, A COHERENT MIND) for someone to dip a finger in water, and cool his TONGUE.

Hell is fire. It's third-degree burns for eternity. Jesus Christ Himself quotes Isa 66:24 more than any other verse in His entire recorded earthly ministry—He says, speaking of people going to hell, that “their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.”

What’s that business about that worm? Well, a child of God gets a body like His Father in eternity (I John 3:2; Php. 3:21); why wouldn’t a lost man get a body like his father’s (John 8:44; Rev. 12:9)?

Marine scientists have discovered hydrothermal vents---cracks in the earth's crust on the ocean floor that spew out fire and hydrogen sulfide. The earth's crust can be as much as fifty miles thick on the surface; on the ocean floor it can be as little as one mile thick.

You know what else they’ve discovered? Creatures called riftia. They are LARGE, RED SNAKES about 6 to 8 feet long that live in and around those super-heated hydrothermal vents. If science stays with it, they might catch up with the Bible in a thousand years or so.

The new Bibles call it hades---Greek mythology “the underworld”; Billy Graham told Larry King it was "separation from God" (rejecting Psalm 139:7, 8 and disagreeing with King David in the process). But the Lord Jesus Christ said it was a place where people burn in a fire that never goes out.

One day, the soul of a man or woman who has never been born again will be raised up and given a spiritual body that can be burned, and yet never burn up. (John 5:26-29; Rev. 20:10-15)

A Jehovah witness (they don't believe in hell) said to me once, “If a soul goes to hell for eternity, that would mean that soul had eternal life!" He thought he had found a contradiction, but the Bible clearly states that eternity without Christ is ETERNAL DEATH (Rev. 20), not life.

That hell exists; that so many are going there; that it's a literal fire that never goes out---these are dreadful truths...but not the most dreadful thing about Hell.

Isaiah 38:18 (KJV) For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.

In hell, there is no hope for the truth. The soul in hell has heard the last truth it will ever hear. Dear reader, you are reading the truth right now, with the chance to act on it. That hope is gone, in hell. It'll be too late to act or believe.

Ephesians 2:12 tells you that if you are on your way to hell, the Bible says you are without hope in this life. All your optimism and planning for the future is vanity, because what is a few years on this earth compared to the backdrop of an eternity YOU'LL SPEND BURNING?

Finally, the Bible says if you're on your way to hell, you are without an eternal hope. If you go to hell in your sins, there is no getting out. EVER. It's ETERNAL PUNISHMENT (Matt. 25:46).

What a horrible thought, that this world and this life is all of heaven you would ever see. To leave the disappointments, pain, sickness, deaths, sorrows and travails of this life, and wake up in the flames of hell, BURNING. Can you imagine?

I submit to you that the most dreadful thing about hell, is that IT’S A PLACE WHERE ALL HOPE IS LOST.

Think of it. There have been men and women who have endured the most extreme tortures and imprisonments, and physical adversities for unbelievable amounts of time, all because they didn’t lose hope. While they drew breath, they had hope of rescue, hope of getting away, hope of seeing their families and friends, hope of returning to a normal life. In hell, there is no hope of any of that.

Jack Hyles related this story, when he was asked about his zeal in witnessing and winning souls:

"One night, I was awakened by this piercing scream from my sister. I ran upstairs to her bedroom, and there she was sweating and in hysterics. I shook her, and I couldn't get her attention, so I had to slap her. I said, 'What's wrong? You had a dream?' She said, 'No, no dream.' I said, 'You had a nightmare?' She said, 'No it was real.' I said, 'What happened?' She said, 'Jack, I just got back from hell. After a few miles of the glitter and lights and all of that which deceives mankind, there was nothing but desolation. It was a horrible situation. It's nothing but desolation and hopelessness. You walk towards the gates of hell knowing that you will never again be free. I got to the gates of hell and the keeper said, "Hold it." I stood outside hell, and I saw people whose faces were twisted and tongues were thick, eyes bulging and hands split, dropping blood. I said, "Sir, please let some air in." And he said, "No air in hell." Then I said, "Kind sir, let them have a drink of water." And he said, "No water in hell." Then I said, "If that's true, let 'em die." And he said, "No death in hell." She said, "My God, how long will they suffer?" And he said, "Forever and ever! Hell has no exit and there is no death."

"She said, 'Just as I turned to leave, he said, "Go back and tell the story." And just as I turned I saw Daddy.'" And I said, "Yep, our Daddy is in hell, because he never got around to doing the most important thing. He schooled us, he fed us, but he never got around to saying yes to Jesus Christ."

Hyles concluded by saying, "I win souls every day so that nobody else's daddy has to go to hell."

Hell is not a purgatory (which is not in the Bible), where you suffer for a while, and then get out. There is not one shred of an implication anywhere in the entire Bible, that one who goes to hell could ever get out.

In Hell, there is :

  • No hope for any future

  • Of seeing another sunrise,

  • Of tasting another meal,

  • Hearing the laughter of a child,

  • no hope of seeing a friend or loved one ever again,

  • no hope for light—for all is darkness,

  • no hope of any kind of pleasure, goodness, kindness, joy, or peace.

No hope for anything---but more torment, more pain, more burning, more depravity, screaming, weeping, and wailing, and gnashing of teeth.

If you're a born-again child of God who has at one time or another trusted Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, I write this to you because you know some people that are going to hell, and you haven’t done anything to stop it. You are their only hope to stay out of there.

If you DO NOT KNOW Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour and are not absolutely certain your sins are forgiven and you are on your way to heaven, I'm writing this to you to SCARE YOU INTO RUNNING TO JESUS CHRIST to save you from that awful place.

Will you trust Him today? Is it worth risking HELL to put it off? God help you!

Years ago, the term “big bang” was coined by a theorist (which in the modern day is called a “scientist”) named Fred Hoyle as he described a theory (which in the modern day is called a “fact”) about the origin of the universe. The “big bang” fairytale, in plain words, goes something like this: “Many billions of years ago (we’re not sure how many billions because we are “scientists” and can’t be sure of anything), there was NOTHING. Then that nothing got really HOT with no source of heat. But although there was no source of heat, the nothing that wasn’t there got hotter and hotter until it finally EXPLODED with no source of ignition. When the nothing blew up, the EARTH came out. That may be “stewing it down to a fine poison”, but that is the long and short of it.

Stephen Hawking and others try to make this absurdity sound respectable by calling it the “initial space-time singularity”, which sounds smart, but still doesn’t explain anything. After all, where did the “space” and the “time” come from to produce any “singularity”? Even if such a thing as a “space-time singularity” could be proven (which it can’t), the question remains as to what actually is the origin of space and time.

There are four possibilities (and only four) that mankind has come up with in recorded history as to what is the origin of the universe. (This is not discussed in secular schools, colleges, or universities.)

THE POSSIBILITIES

  1. It came from nothing, naturally. This is the Big Bang, or the “initial singularity”, or whatever title they come up with next. (They’re talking about “multi-verses” and “multi-dimensional” fantasies currently.)

  2. It has always been here. Meaning, the universe is eternal, with no beginning and no end.

  3. It isn’t really here at all; it’s an illusion.

  4. It came from nothing, supernaturally. In other words, God made it.

Now, that’s it and that’s all. There are no other origin theories which have ever been produced by the most brilliant intellectuals mankind has produced in the last 6,000 years.

There are some problems with three of these theories. Two of them defy demonstrable scientific fact which has been proven and documented (this is REAL science—it can be produced by experimentation). The third defies SANITY.

THE ARGUMENTS

The first possibility, that the universe came from nothing, naturally, can be thrown out based on the first law of thermodynamics which states that matter can neither be created nor destroyed. Something cannot be produced from nothing by any natural process. Out goes the big bang, or the “singularity” (or, the double-bogey, or the triple bypass, etc.). One cannot take nothing and heat it up with more nothing until nothing explodes with no particles to go anyplace because there’s no place to go.

The second possibility, that the universe has always been here, requires the eternity of matter. But this theory falls apart before the second law of thermodynamics, which holds that there is always entropy in a closed system. Things fall apart. Your car is losing value as you read this and will one day be a rusted out scrap pile. Batteries run down, tools wear out, houses fall in. You are getting older, not younger, and one day you will die when your body gives out. That will probably be after your teeth start falling out, your health declines, your heart wears out, your skin sags, and your bones and joints deteriorate. The same is true of the universe and can be observed as fact. The sun is losing millions of tons of mass every minute, and the earth’s magnetic field is deteriorating. If the universe had been here for half the length of time the big brains guess it has, it would have collapsed and imploded into a black hole of random molecules. That is, according to the observable laws of real science.

The third possibility is barely worth mentioning. That the universe and life as we know it is some sort of illusion is just rubbish. However it still begs the question, Who is producing the illusion? Pinch yourself to disprove this “possibility.”

Now we are left with the fourth and final possibility, that the universe came from nothing, SUPERNATURALLY. This is the only possibility that cannot be disproven, and therefore is the only scientific conclusion to which we can come. Once you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth. Somebody says, “What about the first law of thermodynamics, that says ‘matter and energy cannot be created’?” The laws of thermodynamics are NATURAL LAWS. If a SUPER-natural Being is powerful enough to create nature and its laws, doesn’t it stand to reason He would be powerful enough to OVERTHROW and supersede them? Of course it does, and of course He is. God said, “Let there be light, and there was light.”

The Bible teaches a “big bang,” but leave it to mankind to get everything backwards. Evolution theorizes that life begins at the bottom with the amoebas, and things get better and better as life slowly rises to the top. The Bible says we began at the top (Gen. 2), and from there, with the entrance of SIN (Gen. 3), things degenerate and get worse and worse until God has to step in and fix everything up.

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” (II Pet. 3:10)

A wise man once said, “People don’t believe in evolution because of the evidence; they believe in it because of the ALTERNATIVE.” If evolution is a lie (and there is no doubt in our minds), you will stand before the God who created this universe and give an account for your sins.

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment…In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ…” (Heb. 9:27; Rom. 2:16)

"And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." (Rev. 20:15)

"The wicked shall be turned into hell..." (Psa. 9:17)

Here in 2021, things are descending into hell on a universal scale, and on an individual scale in your life, because of SIN. “The wages of sin is death” (Rom. 6:23). And the only “possibility” of your escape is to take the gift of God, which is eternal life through the Lord Jesus Christ (Rom. 6:23). The way out is SUPERNATURAL. Jesus Christ is THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE, and no man comes to God the Father but by HIM (John 14:6). You can't make your own way out by your good works or religion. There is no natural way to escape the penalty for your sins. Just as it took a Supernatural God to give life to this universe, it will take a Supernatural God to give ETERNAL life to your soul. Without Him, you are “dead in trespasses and sins” (Eph. 2:1).

If you trust Jesus Christ as your Saviour, you can go up at a trumpet blast (I Thess. 4; I Cor. 15); if you trust anything or anybody else, you’ll go out with a BIG BANG.

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” (II Pet. 3:10)

If the reader were in a position to observe what’s going on “large-scale” in professing Christianity today, he might have his doubts about the importance of ascribing to any particular denominational designation. The consensus appears to be that it doesn’t really make a difference anymore. I actually heard of a “Catholic Pentecostal Baptist” recently (whatever that is); and if those titles are to be used so loosely as to pretend they can jive with one another, it probably DOESN’T matter.

Generally speaking, it seems as though all the different protestant religions are doing a Vulcan “mind-meld” and meshing together into a great, gray mush where you can barely tell any of them apart any longer (the Bible refers to this as “a great falling away” and a result of spiritual “adultery”—II Thess. 2:3; Jam. 4:4). Their churches have “broken down all the walls” and “built bridges” in their places, just as the media and the spirit of this age has dictated over the last 120 years.

Included in the myriad of things that all the ecumenical, emergent, tolerant, passive, non-denominational, “anything goes and all are welcome” churches-come-social/night clubs hold in common, one will obviously find little to no Bible preaching or teaching going on in them whatsoever. This of course is because they have no Bible to preach or teach; it was stolen from them in 1881-1901, when the King James Bible with it’s underlying Antiochan text was replaced by the corrupt, Egyptian, Westcott and Hort Greek text of the Roman Catholic dark ages, foisted on the world in the Revised Version of England (1881), followed by the American Standard Version in the United States (1901). These Bible corruptions (and all those that have followed—to the tune of 230+ English versions now on the market) and their corrupt, Alexandrian texts were subsequently promoted by Bible-rejecting, apostate (and often unregenerate) scholars in the Christian universities in Europe and America over the next century as being superior to the God-honored, King James Bible of the Reformation, and the Majority Text accepted by every Bible-believing Christian running back to Acts 11:26.

The “gray mush” in which professing Christianity can be observed to exist today is a result of the absence of any FINAL AUTHORITY which would dictate absolute standards of belief and practice in life and in church. When two differing “authorities” exist, a THIRD authority must be chosen to decide which of the first two is right. That third authority is always the intellect and preference of the person doing the deciding. Commonly heard statements made by Christians along these lines are, “I prefer the NIV, because my professor recommended it, and I think he was a very learned and godly man…” or, “I just love the way the NASV translates this particular verse…” Perhaps less commonly (but amounting to exactly the same thing) might be, “I like the Klingon Bible; it ‘touches me’ as a Star Trek fan…” As intellects and preferences are numerous, varied, and many times in disagreement with one another, so become the “authorities”—numerous, variable, and contradictory. Of course, in reality, multiple and differing authorities represent an ABSENCE of authority, and anarchy; everyone individually chooses what they please based on nothing but what lies between their ears. The professing Christian becomes his or her own god, personally dictating what “scripture” is inspired based on nothing more than how inspirational it seems to them.

The process that has brought things to their current condition is actually quite easy to discern. Our generation has seen the consummation of the marriage between the church and the world. As we examine history we can say, “As went professing Christianity, so went the world.” Today the tables have turned and the status quo has become, “As goes the world, so goes professing, worldly ‘Christianity’.” Observe: the Christian world got rid of it’s Authority back around 1900 (see above), and in less than 70 years, the secular world began its public quest to overthrow any authority over it. The communism and fascism of the 1960’s and 1970’s has “matured” (an ironic term as most of the adherents to those philosophies can’t hold down a job but rather spend their lives picketing and rioting) into the liberalism and leftism of today. Nothing much has changed besides the name, however—the goals are still to burn down the country along with any established authority, starting with the flag. And why not? Everything is “relative” (including truth) thanks to Einstein and the scientific community, and since the Christians got rid of the Bible there is no absolute standard of morality by which to judge right and wrong any longer—who is ANYBODY to tell ANYBODY ELSE what to do about ANYTHING? Who gave the government the authority to enforce morality with laws? What is morality if their is no standard? Who is anyone to “judge” anybody? If a child wants to live as an adult with no accountability and no discipline, why shouldn’t he? If a man wants to “identify” as a woman, who’s to say he (she, it, they, shim, etc.) is wrong? Nobody, that’s who. And there you have it; when you throw out final authority, you accept chaos in it’s place.

It is not a similar process that can be observed in Christianity today, but rather the SAME process at work, and at the same time. This of course is because the “world” and the “church” are no longer two different entities—they have become “one flesh.” When the church’s spirit, methods, beliefs, practices, goals, style, approach, music, and philosophies are identical to the world’s, what, then, is the difference between the two? Semantics; that’s the only difference. The world calls it “soft rock;” the church calls it “praise and worship”—it’s the same thing. The world has “life coaches,” the church has “pastors”—they say the same things and serve the same purpose. The world has “disc jockeys,” the church has “worship leaders.” “Entertainers” try to give the people what they want to fill a theatre and sell tickets; church leaders try to give the people what they want to fill the pews and the offering plates. Some so-called preachers in so-called churches actually sell tickets to their services, if you can imagine it. All this because…why not? If there’s no absolute authority superior to the intellect and preference of the individual, then it becomes “survival of the fittest,” and “might makes right.” That’s evolutionary thinking and practical atheism at its finest. Whoever has the talent and the money gets the following, so long as they adapt things to the audience’s pleasing. That goes for Hollywood or contemporary “Christianity.” Of course, the professing Christians involved in this mechanism would never put it in those terms. No, no. They’re too pretentious, or deceived—or both—to state anything so plainly and honestly.

Now, this Satanic operation which has been at work for over a hundred years will culminate, from the Christian’s standpoint, with the body of professing Christianity in total and complete apostasy at the Rapture (II Thess. 2). As far as the world is concerned, it will climax with the whole of unregenerate mankind assembling itself (in a United Nations “general assembly”!—Joel 3:11-21) for war against its Creator (Rev. 16:16; 17:14; 19:11-21). Incidentally, the communist liberals will finally get what they want: to defy the ultimate “established authority”—God; and to watch the world “burn-baby-burn” (Joel 2:3). They’ll burn along with it (Psa. 9:17; Mal. 4:1).

In maintaining our vigilance as Bible-believing Christians we seek to obey our Final Authority when It commands us to segregate ourselves from this world system and, “come out from among them” (II Cor. 6:17). You see, we haven’t allowed our Authority to be stolen from us by some Bible pervert who happens to have more degrees than a thermometer. We’ve gripped It tightly and vowed the enemy can take It from us when they can pry it from our cold, dead fingers. We know Whom we have believed, and we know What we have believed, and have received the word of God, not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually works in those of us that believe It. One of the various ways that segregation from the Satanic operation described above can be accomplished is by “staying by the stuff” when it comes to our Baptist heritage.

Now, we are not Baptist Briders (who teach only Baptists will be Christ’s bride while other saved people will be waiters at the marriage supper!), and do not think that all Baptists are doctrinally correct (we’ve dealt with many who weren’t). In fact we are sure there are many people across the world who go by the designation “Baptist” and are not even saved (for example, Bill Clinton claims to be a Baptist). We also recognize that many “Baptists” in recent church history were terrible testimonies and even hindered the cause of Christ at times. Further, there are many churches today that maintain the designation “Baptist” that we wish would remove it from the name of their church, having rejected many or all of the tenants of a genuine Baptist church. By pointing these things out, however, the implication is that these are exceptions to the rule when it comes to genuine Baptist beliefs and testimony. In plainer words, there are still plenty of REAL Baptists out there, and there is just cause for maintaining the designation.

There are several beliefs Baptists have always ascribed to that set them worlds apart from the other denominations. If a church calls itself “Baptist” and does not believe every one of these, it is NOT truly a Baptist church, and SHOULD remove the name from its sign to maintain its honesty. (It would also take away from real Baptists the burden of explaining and apologizing for the heretical behavior of the fakers.) However, if a Baptist church maintains these beliefs, the name should stay. It’s still an important designation. Here’s why.

First of all, the name “Baptist” is a shortened form of a label slapped on Bible-believers in church history by the Roman Catholic Church. It is a label of DISDAIN, describing a group of HERETICS (standard practice—see Acts 24:14), in the catholic view. Contrary to what may be assumed, baptists do not generally emphasize baptism; just the opposite, in fact, because the Bible teaches New Testament water baptism is non-essential in salvation. The original monicker was “Anti-pedo-baptists” (meaning against infant baptism); another version was “Anabaptists” (re-baptizers); and finally the shortened form, “Baptists.” To be against infant baptism (an anti-pedo-baptist) is to believe the Bible. Nowhere in the sixty-six books of any version of the Bible, from any set of manuscripts, translated into any language, ever, does anyone find a TRACE of anything resembling the immersion (or sprinkling) of an infant in water for the sake of salvation or anything connected with spiritual symbolism. Infant baptism, like 99% of Roman Catholic beliefs, is an unbiblical, pagan, superstitious fabrication. (You will, however, find a type of the Antichrist “immersing” babies in Exo. 1:22.) “Re-baptizers” (Anabaptists) are the same group of Bible-believing, anti-infant baptists, who, upon leading a lost, pagan, sprinkled-as-a-baby, adult member of the Marion cult (the Roman Catholic Church) to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, subsequently baptized (immersed in deep water) the new believer scripturally and properly, as his “mother church” had NOT done. The reader can see why the catholics had their “drawers in a wad” over the defiant manner in which this activity was carried out by the cursed Bible-believers. So the old mother of harlots and mistress of witchcrafts (Nah. 3:4) went to work torturing and murdering men, women, and children, who believed the Bible over Roman superstition, to the tune of 40,000 a year for TWELVE HUNDRED YEARS (300-1500 A.D.). The catholic whore (Rev. 17, 18) has the blood of fifty million Bible-believing Christians pouring from her mouth and hands. It continues to add to that number outside the USA and Canada today.

There are seven major denominations in church history, which all the others we have today stem from: Roman Catholic, Greek Orthodox (the Eastern branch of Roman Catholicism), Anglican (the Church of England—the British form of Catholicism), Presbyterian, Lutheran (these two are the result of the failure of Luther and Calvin to reform Catholicism from within, and retain many Catholic traditions from their mother church), Methodist (an off-shoot of the Anglican Church and formed under John Wesley), and Baptist. The only denominational group which is not a split off of Rome is the Baptists. That’s not bias; it’s documented historical fact. Baptists can trace their ancestry in an unbroken line that leads right back to the early church in the book of Acts. Rome claims this succession, but has nothing but fiction and fantasy to back it up. What the Catholics believe has no basis in the New Testament at all, and that is a documented fact that could be proven in court. They only pretend their beliefs are sourced in Scripture. Bible-believing Baptists believe EXACTLY what the apostles and Christians in Acts 15 believed. These beliefs, which set apart Baptists from all the other major religious denominations, are called by some the “Baptist Distinctives.” Here they are:

1. A regenerated membership. None of the other denominations require their joining members to be saved in the scriptural, New Testament sense—belief and faith in the atonement of Jesus Christ alone for salvation. They neither understand nor teach New Testament salvation, but count on their sprinkling as babies, or other form of baptism (baptismal regeneration) for salvation.

2. The autonomy (self-governance) and independence of the local church. A real Baptist church is an INDEPENDENT Baptist church. We have no outside interference from councils, conventions, organizations, or fellowships. All the other denominations have a central headquarters someplace which dictates policy (catechisms, disciplines, etc.) for all the local assemblies in subjection to it, including who the pastor/priest/bishop/rector/etc. of a particular church will be, and for how long. Some of them send out “spies” to make sure the various cells are running things the way the home office decrees. As with many other of their traditions, this type of thing is nowhere to be found in the scriptures. Independent Baptist churches function exactly the way local assemblies in the New Testament functioned. They had a God-called pastor who was over them by conviction and by the agreement of the church body, and they held services and worshipped by the dictates of the Scriptures and the guidance of the Holy Spirit alone.

3. No infant Baptism under any circumstances. We’ve already sufficiently covered this point. All the others sprinkle or dunk the babies and claim Acts 2:38 as the plan of salvation for this age. It’s works salvation with baptism as one of the main “works.” No true Baptist church engages in anything of the kind.

4. The eternal security of the believer. The Bible teaches that once a man has been born again, he can’t get “unborn.” (Rom. 8:29-39; II Tim. 2:13.) Yet the Roman Catholic Church, for example, has decreed that whoever is not a member of their religious organization is cursed and going to hell, and practices excommunication on those who don’t abide by it’s precepts. Pope Pius IX said, “It must be held by faith that outside the Apostolic Roman Church, no one can be saved”, and Pope Leo XIII said, “He who would separate himself from the Roman Pontiff has no further bond with Christ.”

5. The priesthood of all believers (Rev. 1.4-6; I Pet.2.1-5,9). The significance of this distinctive is that there is no more priestly class of individuals to whom God speaks and accepts in His service, when He won’t accept others. This was the setup ordained in the Old Testament Levitical Priesthood; but in the New Testament, all of God’s people are to serve Him and make “spiritual sacrifices.” There are certain callings that place men positionally over other believers (I Thess. 5:12, 13), but this has to do with leadership and not elitism. The fact is, a sizable number of New Testament apostates ascribe to a form of elitism. Whether it be a scholar at a Christian school dictating what God’s word actually “means” as opposed to what it says, or an egotistical protestant pope passing himself off as a Baptist pastor (the “Great Man of God” routine) trying to manipulate people and pretend he’s special, the error is still the same old Roman Catholic song and dance of centuries gone by. The Bible calls these elitists Nicolaitaines (Rev. 2.6,15), and states that God HATES THEIR DEEDS. The clearest example of this unbiblical practice is again observed in the Roman Catholic Church, where not only does there exist the “clergy-over-the-laity” elitism of their priesthood, but ghastly and blasphemous hierarchical positions which outrank even the Lord Jesus Christ in terms of authority. Jesus Christ is called the “Shepherd and Bishop of your souls” in I Pet. 2:25; what pray-tell is some Roman Catholic blasphemer doing calling himself an “ARCH-bishop”? The Catholic hierarchy runs Pope-Cardinal-Archbishop-Bishop. Do you realize what that means? It means, according to the One, Holy, Apostolic blankety-blank, that JESUS CHRIST IS A FOURTH-RATE AUTHORITY with three other crowds of people with seniority “over Him in the Lord.” Ain’t that a fine how-do-you-do?

Now, having stated this blasphemous, pagan, God-defying, Christ-denigrating, Bible-rejecting example of Roman Catholic villainy, would you hesitate to stand in opposition to all that “church” stands for? Simply by examining the origin of the name “Baptist,” the truth is evident. Further, upon examining the established beliefs and testimonies disctinct to Baptists, the truth is convicting. To state, “I am a Baptist” is to state loudly and clearly, “I am in total defiance of the Roman Catholic Church and everything it stands for.” “Baptist” is synonymous with “Anti-Catholic.” If you’re a Bible-believer and familiar at all with church history, you know that’s an excellent reason to keep the name.

Some of the brethren are considering taking “Baptist” off their church signs. Some have already given up and removed it. They are doing this, not because they are “going contemporary” (and if that IS the reason, then I’ll br glad to help you tear your sign down), and not because they have renounced the baptistic beliefs stated above, but because of simple “battle-fatigue.” This essay is not meant to pick on them, but rather encourage them to reconsider. We are Baptists because of conviction, not tradition. In the future, there may come a day when, because of the behavior of its subscribers, the name “Baptist” carries such a poor testimony that it must be forsaken for something else. For now, to claim the name remains a short and succinct way of stating, “I’m evangelistic, anti-catholic, and was never IN the Catholic Church to “protest” anything. “I’m part of an unbroken line of Bible-believing Christians that, though called by many names throughout the centuries, can be traced straight back to the Apostles and early Christians in Antioch, in the book of Acts.” In conclusion, just to confirm the view of the public with regard to Baptists, we need look no further than Wikipedia: “Baptists are individuals who comprise a group of Evangelical Christian denominations and churches that subscribe to a doctrine that baptism should be performed only for professing believers (believer's baptism, as opposed to infant baptism), and that it must be done by complete immersion (as opposed to affusion or sprinkling). Other tenets of Baptist churches include soul competency (liberty), salvation through faith alone, Scripture alone as the rule of faith and practice, and the autonomy [independence] of the local congregation. Baptists recognize two ministerial offices, elders and deacons. Baptist churches are widely considered to be Protestant churches, though some Baptists disavow this identity.”
